Shylock on Gaza

“Why, I am sure, if they plead, thou wilt not take
Gaza: what’s that good for?”

“An end to their incessant attacks. And if it will feed nothing else,
it will feed our revenge. They have disgraced us, and
murdered our children by torture; laughed at our losses,
mocked at our gains, scorned our nation, thwarted our
alliances, cooled our friends, heated our
enemies; denied us peace; and what’s their reason? We are Jews. Hath
not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs,
dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with
the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject
to the same diseases, healed by the same means,
warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as
a Muslim is? If you prick us, do we not bleed?
if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison
us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not
revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will
resemble you in that. If a Jew wrong a Muslim,
what is his humility? Revenge. If a Muslim
wrong a Jew, what should his sufferance be by
Muslim example? Why, revenge. The villainy they
teach us, we will execute, and it shall go hard but we
will better the instruction.”

About Michael Butchin

I was born, according to the official records, in the Year of the Ram, under the Element of Fire, when Johnson ruled the land with a heavy heart; in the Cradle of Liberty, to a family of bohemians. I studied Chinese language and literature at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. I spent some years in Taiwan teaching kindergarten during the day, and ESOL during the evenings. I currently work as a high school ESOL teacher, and am an unlikely martial artist. I have spent much of my life amongst actors, singers, movie stars, beautiful cultists, Taoist immortals, renegade monks, and at least one martial arts tzaddik. I currently reside in Beijing's Dongcheng district
