I had planned to continue with my series of misfortunate events in my “Beijing Diary” feature. However, last week I lost my uncle, Howard Nevison.

He had an impressive career in music, in Opera, and as a Cantor, in North America, Europe, and Israel. He had also been accused (falsely) of a monstrous crime, hideous enough to have destroyed his career and his name.

Uncle Howard was always supportive of my creative and artistic endeavors. He was an emotional support when my father died, and even supported me financially in times of duress.

I don’t want to say much more, except that I never recognized any evil in him. To me, he was simply my beloved uncle.
I will miss him.

And it pains me that I am trapped in China, unable to have attended his funeral, or sit shiva with my family.

I studied Chinese language and literature at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. I spent some years in Taiwan teaching kindergarten during the day, and ESOL during the evenings.     You do not know what a pedophile monster your relative was? Just because it was not done to you doesn’t mean it was false. These cases are never ending and common … And said when religion becomes a sick man’s alibi.
    You discount his wrong doings as falsehoods? I’d like to know how anyone defends these horrid disgusting people just because they pretend to be religious. God judged him already if he is gone. You will not see him again…I promise. If your a god fearing individual. I pray for your family he damaged.

    I know you won’t let my comment be posted that went on actual research of the case. Maybe you should reconnect with family that knows what happened. I’m sorry your in the denial phase. Talk to your cousins. Pedophiles are not to be taken lightly. They never stop until death. Unless made to.
